Following on from their excellent Natural Selection album, the Wayward son EP features tracks from the album and a few new bangers to keep the fans happy.
Concentrating on the new tracks, the first one being 'You can have anything' features Freestyle Master's mum singing the hook. The whole track is an obvious tribute to his mother and tells of the hardship she has gone through but still manages to give her son everything be it gifts, confidence or hope. This is a good track and I personally think this is some of the best written lyrics Freestyle Master has produced as it is so personal to himself. His mother has an obvious talent as well and as the lyrics suggest, she could have been a star herself if the circumstances were different.
Another couple of tracks in we come to 'Swagger' the next new track featuring Cad. Steg G's beat on this track is a thumping triumph and screams to be played loud. I would go as far to say that this is one of the best beats he has produced. Cad kicks of the track and sounds different than normal with what I can only describe as singing rap and I'm not to sure if the style works for him. Freestyle Masters contribution is strong and he seems to suit the beat better than Cad.
Stonez The Riddlah of Dark Rumours produces a remix of 'Wayward Son' before the next new cuts from the EP 'Better Days' and 'Luv is the drug' with the latter the best of the two. Featuring a sample from Roxy Music's 'Love is the Drug' Steg G's production is of a high standard and is complimented by the lyrics of Freestyle Master & Cad. Cad sounds better on this track and I prefer hearing him rapping faster than the slow rap of the previous track.
I would have preferred an EP with more new tracks instead of filling it with tracks from a previous album, but maybe I am just being greedy.
A solid PCP release.
