BDR - Street Battles

bdr street battles

Bringdaruckus.com are organising 1 on 1 and 2 on 2 street battles to determine who is the best in Scotland.

How will this work? Here are the details...

Each will consist of:

3 - 60 second rounds each... if no winner:
1 - 60 second round each... if no winner:
3 punchlines each - winner WILL be announced (NO INTERNET VOTE!!!)

It will work using a point system (each round):

2 points for a win
1 point for a draw
0 points for a loss

All battles will be judged by 3 judges. Judges decision is final.

There will be two leagues, one West and one East. Winner from each will battle in a final to determine the Scottish winner.

To determine who battles who, all names will be placed in a hat and called out (which will be filmed and placed online).

The set up will be (depending on how many people take part... i'm using 4 starting battles as an example):

Round 1

Battle 1 = MC 1 v MC 2
Battle 2 = MC 3 v MC 4
Battle 3 = MC 5 v MC 6
Battle 4 = MC 7 v MC 8

Round 2

Battle 1 = Round 1 Battle 1 winner v Round 1 Battle 4 winner
Battle 2 = Round 1 Battle 2 winner v Round 1 Battle 3 winner

Final Round
Battle 1 = Round 2 Battle 1 winner v Round 2 Battle 2 winner

Scottish championship decider (which I hope to happen at a gig I put on)
West winner v East winner

A trophy will be given out to the Glasgow and Edinburgh winners with another trophy handed to the Scottish winner.

We are currently looking for sponsors to help with prize money etc.

If you want to put your name down to take part in t the Scottish MC battle championships email your name and if you are from the west or east side to chris@bringdaruckus.com

Let the battle commence!

UKHH.com 8 Ball Mixtape review!
UKHH.com 8 Ball Mixtape review!

Top UK hip-hop site www.ukhh.com has just posted up a review of Wanted Records 8 Ball Mixtape Vol.2. Read the review below...

"Volume 1 obviously passed me by, so I’m straight into Volume 2, which always makes me feel like I’ve missed out on something, but hey. In a rather charitable act by these chaps at Wanted Records, all profits of this CD go to the National Autistic Society which is a good cause for sure. Still, the quality of the mixtape needs to be worthy of you parting with your money.

This UK mix features some big names like Roots Manuva, Braintax and even exclusives from Verb T and the Diversion Tactics, but it also has a heavily Scottish influence, which is interesting if like me, your exposure to Hip-Hop north of the border is minimal. Ok, some of it is hard to stomach and there are plenty of fillers throughout the 30 tracks, but there are also some little gems that you’re unlikely to hear anywhere else. Highlights are Ransom Badbones’ “Taking Medication” and DJ Intex ft. Ewhurst “Feels So Good”, which is a good demonstration of the more known artists, coupled with the refreshing inclusion of lesser knowns.

In a world where music, particularly Hip-Hop, is under attack from being overly money driven, this mixtape makes a refreshing change. Ok, so it’s not 100% banger after banger, but it does show the range of music on offer the length and breadth of these Isles. For that variety alone, this is worth investigation."

Blues & Soul Scottish Podcast.
Blues & Soul Scottish Podcast.

The hour long podcast features what I consider to be some of the best talent around up here in Scotland. I’ve tried to use a mixture of different artists ranging in age and experience to display the depth, diversity and versatility of their sound. Guys like Steg G , Eastborn and Ala fu have went from being dj’s and mc’s to label owners. Shogun is in the 1xtra unsigned hall of fame, Kontempts production is being featured on the next Game mixtape, Big Taj made the UK beat boxing championship and may be used in an add for Ironbru, watch Respect BA destroying mc’s on the jump off and pass the mic competitions. Then you have the new school like Skay,Jae-p,Clarita ,Adele,L-Marie and Raff who are all getting regular spins on the likes of Kiss, Galaxy and 1xtra. Not forgetting guys like Great Escapez, The Remedies and Damaged goods who bridge the gap between the two having been around in the beginning and still put out meaningful material.

I think now more than ever Scottish hip-hop has found it’s own voice and is proud of it. It’s not a new occurrence by any means with groups like Scotland yard, Two Tone committee, Reachout and Steg G and the Freestyle master who have been putting out material since the late eighties. But right now more than ever there is a bit of cohesion in the scene which has been brought together by sites like www.urbanscot.com, www.bringdaruckus.com and www.scottishhiphop.com these have forged great bonds between djs, producers and artists for the first time. Also the quality of material and the ability to promote and distribute via the internet has helped with the cultivation of an emerging scene. We have labels like Powercut, Vava, Kriminal and Dropzone flying the flag for home grown talent and newer artists and also regular showcase events and club nights which feature exclusively Scottish acts. There’s so much creativity and talent up here which gets over looked but it’s something which has lead to people forging a self sufficient and independent scene which no longer looks South for approval.
