Hip-Hop Legends Tour - Fruitmarket, Glasgow - 28.04.06
I was told before I went in that I could have got a refund as Big Daddy Kane was a no show, again, but I decided to go in.
We arrived for doors opening at 10pm and entered to Scratch DJ's who produced some good tunes for the next two hours.
Bigg Taj, a great homegrown beatboxer, came on stage shortly after and amazed the crowd with his skills, and then again we had the DJ's playing some good tunes over the next hour.
OK. This is when I started to think I paid £38 for two tickets and all I have seen and heard are two scratch DJ's! Luckily they were good but for £17?
Around 12am , Cool V came on stage, mixed a few records and introduced Biz Markie. This huge hulking man came on stage and produced some beatboxing that was not a patch on Bigg Taj. After a few minutes he rapped to some of his classic tracks and then introduced Roxanne Shante.
Roxanne Shante and Biz Markie produced some classics including 'Roxanne's Revenge' amongst others but this was the only highlight in my mind. Biz Markie sat on the speakers all night as if he could not be arsed and let Roxanne do most of the work. After 30 minutes they left the stage.
10 minutes later Biz Markie came back on stage to go behind the decks and mixed 'CD's' which was shit. All he did was play 20 seconds of each track which did not mix well into each other. I might be wrong but I am sure he pretended to scratch and mix records which did not go in time to what I and the rest of the people that where with me heard?!?!?!
So. This sums up the night. I paid £17 for 30 minutes of Biz Markie, Roxanne Shante and Cool V. Big Daddy Kane, who was the act I really wanted to see, was a no show, and watched scratch DJ's for two and a half hours. Shite!
I was so disappointed especially when I saw De La Soul and Ugly Duckling the week before for practically half the price and who where amazing. This night was just plain shite! Yes I am writing this straight after the gig as I am so angry and want to vent my anger. Yes I have had a few soda and limes but fuck me... this was awful! I am glad I had a few drinks!!
The one star below is for Bigg Taj as he was the only highlight the whole night.
