Loki - Friendly World
Loki - Friendly World

Glasgow emcee Loki has just released his follow up to the excellent Between Worlds, Friendly World, as a FREE download!

Friendly World was to be a full blown release but due to various circumstances, Loki felt he would get it out to the general public so he can concentrate on his new album with Dropzone Records.

The album kicks of with 'So Nasty' which sees Loki vent his anger at peoples perceptions of him. "I don't want your respect, I don't need your respect" spits Loki as he demonstrates his strong writing skills over a fantastic beat supplied by Sum.

'Profit a Man' is one of the standout tracks on the album. The first lyric "This beaurocacy in this democracy of hypocrisy is shocking me constantly and blocking me from achieving my dreams properly" is a joy to hear. A lot of 'commercial' rappers would kill to come up with lyrics like that. Any budding emcees take note!

Loki has a bit of fun with 'Sunshine & Short Skirts" when Kris the Lyricist takes him on holiday. This track comes in at the right time on the album and helps lift the darker tone of the earlier tracks.

Some people I have spoke to have raised a concern with "Me and my Backpack" which Loki admits is controversial. Half way through the track it changes the script and talks about racism in certain parts of the black community. Part of his rap is about how Chris Rock can take the piss out of the 'goofy white folk' but if it is the other way around it would be deemed racist. While I can see what he is trying to achieve here by saying racism is not just a 'white' thing, which is true, I can also imagine some people would be angry with this track, especially with racism being big news at the moment because of Big Brother.

The best track on the album for me is 'Wheels on the Bus". The beat, lyrics and loki's delivery are all of a high standard. His lung capacity must be vast as he seems to hardly draw breath.

Loki is one of these emcees people either love or hate, but the one thing you can not take away from him is the man can write. I look forward to see what his Dropzone release brings.
