Coreskills was at The Bongo Club in Edinburgh and once again it was a great night.
Boom Monk Ben had to pull out for personal reasons but Mellowed Elements stepped up and did not disappoint. Stevie Lovebone, Big Geesus and guest hype man Bluhnt all put on a good set and played some new tracks as well as old ones like 'Sentifical Madness'. I have never seen these guys perform live before and I was impressed with what I heard and will definitely be looking out for them in the future.
Verse One once again displayed his freestyle skills and put on a good 30 minute set that kept the crowd going after Mellowed Elements. Verse One was on his lonesome this time round as Krafty could not make it but he held up well on his own.
Black History Month were next and this four piece Glasgow based funk band were fun and entertaining with a fusion of meaty funk, old school hip-hop, Latin, blues, jazz and classic soul all rolled into one.
The last act, dBass, were the highlight of the night for me. This eight piece live act consisting of the excellent Tasha Nixon on lead vocals, Quest, Martin Fell, George J. Murray, Euan Allardice, Fraser Clark, YN and Roy Mohan Shearer where a delight to watch as they displayed an amazing array of sounds that were a joy to hear. Martin on the sax was amazing and Tasha's vocals were, once her mic was turned up, just beautiful. If you are a fan of the band 'Aim' then dBass would be one to look out for as they are on a par with them.
The only disappointing thing about this night was the turnout. Coreskills deserve a bigger crowd as this is one of the top nights in Edinburgh. Wake up people and get down to the next one. You will not be disappointed!!
